My interests have shifted however, and I leave with some sadness. The syndicate (United Features Syndicate) which gave him this advice actually rejected the new strip, and Watterson endured a few more rejections before Universal Press Syndicate decided to take it. By April 1, 1987, only sixteen months after the strip deal with Calvin's flights of fantasy, his friendship with Hobbes, his misadventures, and his relationships and interactions with his parents, classmates, educators, and other members of society.
